Just before Queensday, two projects of The Patching Zone were awarded a 'Best Practice' award by Virtueel Platform (sectorinstitute for E-culture). According to their own website, Virtueel Platform gives these awards to the 'most innovative and inspiring new media products in arts, culture and society'. The two winning projects are: Go-for-IT! and Plantas Parlantes.
Go-for-IT! is an interactive citygame that uses street tiles with LED-lights. The players of the game step on the tiles in different patterns as shown by the flickering lights. For more information about this project, please click here.
Plantas Parlantes (Talking plants) was an installation that the Recycle-X team made in co-operation with Mexican artist Gilberto Esparza. An electrical circuit was created between a series of plants. When users touched the plants they closed the circuit, thereby producing different sounds, that were emplified by speakers. For more information about Plantas Parlantes, please click here.
